So, despite some doggie help, I have finally finished work on the mural. I can't believe it's done!
The painted Chinese characters is a proverb written by the upcoming baby's grandfather. Roughly translated it says,“In the pureness and innocence of childhood, true joy and happiness.”
This is my favorite part of the mural. The tree will be used as a growth chart, which is why the banner says, "Oh, how you've grown!" Originally it was going to include the baby's name but since that keeps changing, we decided to leave it out.
All in all the mural took about ten days to do. It may have been ten, ten-hour days, mind you. I think I might have lost some weight in the process. I definitely lost sleep as you can tell from my haggard appearance. Haggard, but happy!

It's absolutely gorgeous, Grace! What a cool concept, the growth chart tree. These friends will never ever want to move away from this house!
We can’t even begin to say how honored and touched we are by Grace’s gift to our baby. It was so inspiring and so much fun to watch Grace transform the bare walls into a beautiful, lively mural! Every minute there was some new detail. It was amazing to see her figure out what colors go where and who wears what—the thought processes of an artist at work. (As you can see, our dog enjoyed it too; somehow he managed to stay mostly white throughout the process.)
It is true--we love the mural so much we won’t want to ever move from the house! How fortunate this baby is (as are we), to be touched by Grace’s radiant spirit and gift of joy and color.
Thank you, Grace.

grace, i don't know if you saw my last blog but i think you could sell these murals...perhaps not paint each one but have them reproduced on wall paper or adhesive huge stickers. i can see a lot of parents, libraries, schools using them as decorations. maybe this could be a sustaining source of practical income while pursuing your passion with your book work?
the mural is beautiful beautiful beautiful. my kids and my niece love the pics you draw in books...the colors are so vibrant and happy.

Congratulations! It is so beautiful, I can't believe it only took 10 days.
I love it! Am I right that each animal is one from the Chinese Zodiac?
NOW THAT'S A MURAL! Very, very cool! 10 ten hour days was worth it! Beautiful!
